24 Days of Sparkle Girl – Rice Krispie Trees

How to make these easy cute Christmas trees!

Ingredients;

  • 6 cups of rice krispies
  • 2 big bags of marshmallows
  • A few packets of smarties
  • Green food dye

Equipment:

  • A big pan
  • A wooden spoon
  • 2 metal forks
  • Baking paper

Method:

  • Heat a little bit of butter on low heat.
  • Stir in the marshmallows until they look like this:
  • Turn the heat off and stir gently
  • Add in the rice krispies and mix them together until well coated
  • Pour the green dye into the rice krispies and marshmallows (depending on how green you want them you might need to use more green dye.)
  • Using baking paper make small cones and sellotape the cones shut
  • Spoon in the mixture and add some smarties (for baubles.)
  • Leave them to cool in the fridge overnight
  • Carefully peel the paper away to reveal your trees!

Scary Halloween Buns

Need something to tuck into on Halloween? Try these…

Ingredients:

  • 110g Unsalted Butter
  • 110g Caster Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tsp of Vanilla Extract
  • 110g Self-Raising Flour
  • 1 tsp of Baking Powder

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 180C and line a 12 hole muffin tin.
  • Cream the butter and the sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Whisk the eggs until they are bubbly.
  • Slowly – while mixing – add the eggs and the flour gradually.
  • Put the mixture into the tin and bake for around 10-15 mins until a skewer or fork comes out clean.

Decoration – for the mummy cakes:

  • Make sure your cakes are flat on top, you may need to shave the top off to make them flat.
  • Roll out some white fondant icing next to some black fondant icing (also rolled out.)
  • Cut the black and the white into strips.
  • Put one black strip in the middle of the cake then layer the white strips on top.
  • For the eyes, make tiny round white circles and put 2 even smaller black circles on top.
  • Place the eyes onto the black strip of icing and that is the mummy cakes done!

Decoration – for the spider web cakes:

  • Make sure your cakes are flat on top, you may need to shave the top off to make them flat.
  • Roll out some green and black fondant icing.
  • Cut the green icing into circles (big enough to cover the top of the cake.) Place the green circles on to the top of the cake.
  • Now cut the black icing into very thin strips and copy the picture of the cakes above!

Hot Chocolate Recipe

Now, the time has come where everyone’s dream is to snuggle up with a lovely warm hot chocolate but now this dream is a reality…

Ingredients:

  • Hot Water (and a kettle)
  • Milk
  • A cup
  • A couple of teaspoons
  • Your favourite hot chocolate flavour

Decorations (optional) :                                 

  • Mini Marshmallows
  • Squirty Cream
  • Your favourite hot chocolate flavour

Steps (to the perfect hot chocolate) :

  • Firstly, put 2-5 spoonfulls of the hot chocolate flavouring (this can vary depending on how chocolatey you want it to be) into the cup.
  • After that, pour a dash of milk into the cup with the hot chocolate powder. Mix this until the contents looks like this:
  • Then add some hot water until it is around 3 quarters full, mix this until:
  • To finish off the mixture, add milk until it is a colour you like.
  • I know it looks the same but I have filled it up more!

Decorations (optional) :

  • Just throw whatever you think will be tasty on!

Rhubarb Crumble Recipe

I haven’t made this in about a year, whether that is because of the sun or just lack of rhubarb I’m not sure! So this is how I made it…

Ingredients:

  • 500g Rhubarb
  • 100g Caster Sugar
  • 100g Plain Flour
  • 100g Oats
  • 100g Butter (unsalted)
  • 4 tbsp of Demerara Sugar
  • Zest of a orange                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Cooking Time: 45 mins- 1 hour                                  Preparation Time- 20 mins

Method

  1. Cut the Rhubarb into 1 or 2 cm pieces.
  2. Put the cut rhubarb in a over proof dish. Now add the sugar and orange zest, Make sure you have room to put the crumble on top.
  3. Cook the rhubarb for 10-20 mins until you can smell the rhubarb and a fork comes out easily.
  4. Whilst the rhubarb is cooking, mix the rest of the ingredients into a bowl and work them until they look all crumbled together and have a crumbled consistency.
  5. Remove the rhubarb from the oven and pour the crumble on the top. Bake this in the oven for 30-45 mins.
  6. Take it out when you think it is right.
  7. Serve with ice cream!
